چکیده

t v a a m u e t he concept behind mentoring has existed since as early as ancient Greece, when Odysseus placed is friend Mentor in charge of his son elemachus while he went off to fight n the Trojan War in the late 12th entury BC. Obviously, we’ve come a ong way since the days of Homer’s Odssey, but only recently have technologcal advances allowed for changes in he way mentoring is conducted, reoving the necessity of meeting faceo-face whenever the mentee has a uestion or the mentor an idea to hare. E-mail and the Internet have pened up new avenues for mentors nd mentees to find and connect with ach other—whether they work in the ame office or on opposite sides of the lobe. Today, nearly everything can e done through the Internet, from alking to friends across the world to rdering take-out from a neighborood restaurant to paying bills withut leaving your desk—but what bout getting personalized training or dvice to advance your career as a ood and nutrition professional? Webased mentoring, or e-mentoring, if sed correctly, shows that online entoring relationships can be just s productive and fulfilling as tradiional ones (Figure 1). After establishng the basics of the traditional menoring relationship in last month’s ournal, this article concludes our wo-part series on mentoring in the odern workplace by exploring the uances of mentoring online.
